Description:
The trip starts in São Luis, the historic capital of Maranhão, in the Northeast coast of Brazil. From there, we will drive eastbound to the fishermen’s village of “Primeira Cruz”. You will then be brought to a hotel, located only a few steps from the pier where our boats will be departing every morning to take you fishing in the well-preserved waters of this estuary.
This trip is all about fishing; Primeira Cruz is an under-developed village with a hotel, a grocery store, a few local shops and simple restaurants.
Alternatively, you can choose to stay in the village of Santo Amaro, the closest gateway to the famous “Lençois Maranhenses” National Park, a 45-minute drive from Primeira Cruz (upcharge applies).
Although the river water is not clear enough for sight-fishing, you will see a good number of tarpon rolling around you, so you can present your best fly to them. In many cases, we will just guess where the fish is, being the mangroves a preferred location for our predators to hide.
We will schedule our trips based on the tides and moon phases – please consult us for the best days to fish.
NOTE: This trip is most suitable for small groups from 6 anglers (fly) to 9 anglers (conventional).
